Hiring a Plumber

Hiring a plumber is something you will need to do after you have designed your new bathroom or you have decided to remodel your existing bath. When hiring a plumber there are several steps that you should take to find the right person for the job. Ask local contractors or hardware stores to recommend someone. Also ask friends, family and neighbors for referrals.

After you have narrowed your search down to three candidates it is time to get estimates. These estimates should include all aspects of the job from tearing out existing fixtures to cleanup, labor and parts. Some questions that you should ask your plumber are:

How long have you been in business?

Do you have state license or proper certification?

Do you have liability and workers compensation?

Do you guarantee parts and services?

Can you provide references?

Take the time to contact the references provided. Make sure previous customers were satisfied with the work that was done and if the project was completed on time. Also ask to see actual proof of licensing and insurance.

After you have decided on which plumber to hire you will want to draw up a contract. Make sure the contract clearly states:

The specific work that is to be done.

Total cost of the job that is to be done.

The payment due date.

Who will be supplying the materials?

What products and services will be guaranteed?

The start and estimated ending date of the job.

Don’t make your final decision based on the estimate alone. A bad or inexperienced plumber could cost you in the long run.
